The new version features enhanced Jaguar support
Real Software has announced the immediate availability of REALbasic 5, the powerful,
easy-to-use tool for creating software for Mac and Windoze. This new version of the
award-winning software includes enhanced support for Jaguar, including drawers,
brushed-metal windows and toolbars.
?REALbasic 5 is the most significant release in several years,? said Geoff Perlman,
president and CEO. ?REALbasic is still the fastest, easiest way to create Macintosh
applications and now those applications look and feel more at home on Mac OS X than
ever before.?
REALbasic 5 sports powerful new internet communications capabilities including email
and http classes, as well as SSL and UDP communication. The REALbasic language has
been enhanced with new features, such as operator overloading. It includes an all-new
compiler and a debugger that greatly improves the stability while debugging.
Pricing starts at $99.95 (SRP) direct from REAL or through Apple Stores (online,
brick-n-mortar), CompUSA, Fry?s Electronics and Apple specialists nationwide. Upgrades
start at $29.95, and academic and volume discounts are available. In addition to
English, REALbasic is available in French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Japanese
from international distributors.
Editor's note: Those programming (note I use the word liberally here) in REALbasic are
responsible for a growing onslaught of small applications, enhancers, utilities,
interface widgets, etc, etc... Thus said, I'm not entirely sure that the availability
of a new, more-powerful version of this programming tool is good news.
