Tech Wreck: Apple, Dell, HP Shares Tumble
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
February 26th 2003
Tech recovery threatened by anxiousness about war with Iraq.
The Dow Jones was 103 points at close of trading Wednesday, while tech heavyweights
Dell, HP, IBM and Apple lost ground, reports the India Times.
Apple fell 52 to $14.50, Dell 73 to $25.78, IBM $1.67 to $77.40 and HP a massive
$2.80 to $15.37. The latter was due to HP missing its most recent revenue forecasts.
HP recorded a profit for the quarter, but did not meet analysts' expectations.
Tech companies were the "biggest drag" the exchange, with the Nasdaq falling 1.9%,
while the Dow Jones fell by 1.3%. The selling follows a strong surge Tuesday, but it
appears profit-taking was Wednesday's order of the day.
Much of the uncertainty is due to the prospect of a war with Iraq, although poor
levels of corporate performance have made investors wary. However, oil and
defense-related stocks showed strong gains.
