Apple posts Samba, OpenSSL security fix
By Michael Flaminio, Insanely Great Mac
March 24th 2003

Apple Monday posted a security update to address recently exposed OS X vulnerabilities.

Apple's Security Update 2002-03-24 is available now via the Software Update utility
and also as a stand-alone download. The update fixes recent vulnerabilities in Samba,
the Windows file sharing, and OpenSSL, the secure terminal access software included
with Mac OS X.

The OpenSSl fix addresses a possible timing attack using RSA keys, while the Samba
addresses a possible unauthorized access hole. Even though both services are disabled
by default in OS X, Apple recommends all users update the software.

The 2002-03-24 update requires Mac OS X 10.2.4 and earlier for both client and server
installations of OS X. For more information, please visit Apple's Web site.
