Clipboard from Terminal or Perl?

Yo,

I was just wondering whether anyone has found a way to store/retrieve
items from the clipboard (copy,paste) from the Terminal.  In other
words, something like:

  % clip_copy file1.txt

I didn't find anything in the TIL about it, but I could barely find my
own ass in there, even if I knew what it looked like.
