Dunno if it'd be any help for OS X, but when I had grief getting expat to complie, I was pointed towards XML::Parser 2.29. It lets you sidestep expat install problems because it has the relevant bits of expat bundled with it: http://cpan.valueclick.com/authors/id/C/CO/COOPERCL/ But like I say, that was on a recalcitrant linux box and *not* OS X.
