It seems to be an upstream bug, as the configure script disregard any setting to the relevant environment variables. I have little understanding of the configure script and for the moment I compiled an issue upstream. However, UberFTP depends also on grid-packaging-tools. Not sure if compiler selection might depend on this, so this would be related? ~petr
