For what it's worth, I use XQuartz xterm, and I do not see the hang/crash
that is claimed here. Admittedly, I do not use defaults --- but I am having
trouble imagining an actual crash unless the user has set their locale to a
*non*default non-UTF8 and something is balking at conversion of a Unicode
codepoint not represented in their locale.
