I’m waiting for agreement with other science port maintainers to move forward 
on gcc49 as default. gcc48 is still the Macports default gfortran compiler. As 
I stated in another thread, I think it best if we migrate to the compilers 
portgroup and change it there. 

The only reason it was set to gcc49 was because it was causing an error when 
compiling p5.16-ifeffit when gcc48 was used.
