Yes, I did it several times, and the update worked, but not the installation of libiconv. I got macports from macports website, and I took the DarwinPorts-1.3.1-10.4.dmg package. I'll try with the 1.3.2 to see, but I already updated via selfupdate so...
A bientôt, Julien

Hello,

I'm a newbie with macports and I am trying to install ruby on rails by port.
To do this, I'm following this tutorial :
http://blog.duncandavidson.com/2006/04/sandboxing_rail.html

But while compiling libiconv (in apache2), I've got an error and I don't know what to do. Apparently, port is trying to compile a PPC version and I
have got a MacBook Pro 1.83.

quite strange indeed, i wonder if somehow you've managed to install a
PPC compiled version of macports (i am not sure why macports would try
and build a ppc version of libiconv otherwise). if you run the
selfupdate command, does that get you any further along?

   % sudo port selfupdate

cheers,
