I downloaded the MacPorts-1.6.0.pkg again, and this time it installed after several minutes. After the installer finished I tried : $ sudo port -v selfupdate Password: Synchronizing local ports tree from rsync://rsync.macports.org/release/ ports/ but here the terminal hangs up.
