First understand the problem, understand the consequences of your solution, then decide whether to try applying the fix. That seems to be good counsel here. I have no horse in the race: whether someone else wants to replace Apple's sudo with their own makes not a whit of difference in my life. And so, I'll refrain from giving advice except to say that yes, replacing Apple-provided binaries with your own can cause major problems with upgrades. The risk of this happening must be weighed against the inconvenience of using Apple's sudo. If the risk calculation is in favor of replacing sudo, then replace it: otherwise, don't.
