This is also why there's no mechanism to select the system python (although it wouldn't be that difficult to add one, it's usually a bad idea). https://trac.macports.org/wiki/FAQ#ownlibs (and most of the questions around it) Homebrew was the most recent attempt by someone to pretend that avoiding the system-installed stuff is "just being stupid" or whatever.
