in fact, the reason I /first/ started using MacPorts (which had a different 
name at that time ;-) ), was because it would use the system provided 
perl/python/other stuff.

Of course, time and experience proved that things work better without having to 
scramble and fix things any time Apple issues an update the changes things (or 
is broken in some way).

GitHub plus not having to learn/use tcl seem to be the major features that pull 
people/create interest from what I've seen (but I haven't looked in on it in a 
while).
