I believe that's correct. However, MacPorts does record whether you requested a port (by running "sudo port install X") or whether the port was installed because it was a dependency of something else. You can use the pseudoports "requested" and "unrequested" to address these sets of ports (for example "port installed requested" and "port installed unrequested"). You can use the commands "setrequested" and "unsetrequested" to change these lists (e.g. "sudo port unsetrequested Z").
