I think that's in the adium preferences. You have to hit the events button and add speak events to everything you want spoken. I never knew about that when I got this Macbook I got off Ebay. The only thing I'm wondering is how I get rid of the ugly picture I took on the setup assistant. I thought it was a bug as it kept saying busy until I hit take video snapshot and I was in no condition to want to take a picture of myself, but I thought nobody would ever see it anyway, but it's now default on my MSN.
