Apple is running a limited time offer on refurbished models of the
iPod nano 4G:

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipod?mco=MTE3Njc

Prices are $99 for the 8GB and $149 for the 16GB, which is lower than
their usual refurbished prices when these are available. Of course,
this could also be a sign that they're planning to announce a new
model shortly (like in June).

I also tried out the 3G shuffle in the Apple Store. The headphones
work the way that the optional headset for the 4G nano does. (The nano
headset supports the nano's Voice recording options, as well as
providing the controls on the headset cable, on the side hanging down
from the right earbud.) I'm pasting in the relevant text from the
Knowledge Base article on using the remote on the headset for the 3G
shuffle at:

and extraneous information were deleted)

Advantages of the new shuffle: VoiceOver voices work for multiple
languages (Nano only works with the voice you select for text to
speech) and small form factor. Adds support for multiple playlists
(not available for previous shuffles) and larger capacity. Lower price
point ($79 for 4GB) than for the 4G Nano (but the current special
refurbished prices will get you an 8GB Nano 4G for $99). Announces
battery status.

Advantages of the Nano 4G: can be used with any headphones (unless you
want to use the voice recording feature -- then you need a headset or
add-on recorder that supports the new chip set), can be controlled
with the click wheel. Larger capacity (8GB and 16GB). Supports video
playback. More menu flexibility (browse/select by Album, Artist,
Genre, etc. as well as by play list; construct on-the-go play list by
selecting songs to add as you listen).

the (old) mail archive site for this list:

This last post just gives the information and link for the review of
the Headphones. It may be more interesting to read down the thread
using the Control-N (Safari) access keys for David's comments about
the headset.

Esther
