Actually, no, it's not a crazy question at all.  I agree VO's web 
navigation leaves us short in several areas.  Even before VO, I used 
the older Universal Access feature of speak selected text when a key 
is pressed.  I actually still use this today.  I'll go to a web page, 
hit my command-A to select all, then hit my Speak selected text.  Old 
habits die hard.

The VO purists will suggest using the VO-A key to have VO speak all, 
but I like my way better, of course.

The risk with my way is that VO may disrupt speaking of the text, so 
I actually will disable VO as I listen to a long page.
