Ichat does not create accounts for you on any chat servers. If you don't have the account, you won't be able to set it up in Ichat. There should be a status button near the top of your screen that might say "disconnected," or "connected," or whatever. If it doesn't say Connected or Surfing the web or something, then you can't add buddies.
