Hi Donna,

It sounds like a dialog is coming up when you try to delete the disk  
image, and the dialog isn't being spoken. Try pressing VO-f2 twice to  
open the Window chooser, and see if another window is available  
containing the dialog. If not, if there's anyone sighted around, have  
them check for the dialog. I've had similar things happen in Finder,  
such as when I tried to move a file to a location where there was  
already a file of the same name, and the dialog asking whether I  
wanted to replace the file wasn't spoken. Such problems are supposed  
to occur less often in Snow Leopard.
