Seems to me that it would be a lot less trouble just to find it in the dock. I
was never a fan of launching apps with a hot key.

Hi,

As mentioned earlier, the “Choose iTunes Library” dialog comes up because your
Option key is down when iTunes is starting. This is normal behaviour in both
iTunes and iPhoto and possibly others that I’m not aware of. I suggest that
you not use Keyboard Shortcuts with the Option key like that. Option plus a
alphanumeric key-stroke has a built-in function in the MacOS to be used with
alternate characters. For example, Option plus “p” yields π (the mathematical
pi sign). I recommend you use combinations like ctrl-shift-i or simply ctrl-i.
The Control key alone with a letter is seldom used for much in the MacOS as
the command key is the normal modifier when doing keyboard shortcuts. With
respect to using the F8 key, this process should actually work on any Mac, all
you’re doing when pressing the F8 key is telling your Mac to Play/Pause the
current media, so, if iTunes is not already open, it will open iTunes and start
playing. If iTunes is already open, then it will Play or Pause the current
media without bring focus to the iTunes app.
