An update: Quick synopsis: After some truly strange issues, Apple had me
restore my iPhone to default settings and restore from back-up, but the back-up
went all wrong, with multiple odd messages, no syncing of media content, and so
on.
This morning, on a whim, I tried using a different cable for the sync . . . and
none of the messages popped up, and my content is successfully synced.
The cable appears fine, but who knows?
It is the short USB cable originally provided to sync and charge my iPhone 5.
Interestingly, I cannot find it in the Apple Store; I would like to purchase a
new one, but the short one does not appear to be listed.
I only see 0.5m or longer.
