Thanks Tim, I was in a bit of a panic yesterday and I expected the Apple genius to say exactly what you just did. However, he didn't and I took a chance on partitioning my drive and reinstalling on the new partition. The process worked flawlessly and I migrated all my info and apps over. When I woke up this morning, I was back in business.
Thanks for the info though, I'll be better prepared and more willing to take the risk next time. Wish those geniuses would say more than - I don't know what is wrong, it could be software or hardware and we need to keep your laptop for three days and charge you $100 to backup your data...Looks like they just want the money and not necessarily to help.
