Hi, In your iCloud Prefs, is Documents & Data checked? If so, then they might be up in iCloud but not in the new iCloud Drive. If that is the case, go to your Finder, up to the Go menu, then with VO keys down, navigate down to the Library folder option and activate it. Once in the Library folder, open the Mobile Documents folder and locate the com.apple.TextEdit folder and open it. There should be a Documents folder in there and they might reside there.
