Hi,

Further to Erik’s comments, the Blank template that you’ve chosen is the
correct one. In Pages Preferences, you can set Pages to automatically have
this as your default document upon startup. For me, at least, when starting
Pages, when the blank document comes up, VO is focused on the Body Text of the
document and one can simply start typing. If that’s not the case for you, then
you can interact with the Document Layout area where you’ll note Header and
Footer text fields and a Body text field. The Body one is the field you wish
to use. You can use VO-j to jump over to the Formatter area if you need to set
formatting options. Simple formatting like Bold, Italics etc can be easily set
using keyboard shortcuts like cmd-b or cmd-i. If your version is not allowing
you into the Body text area, then you’ve either a very old version of Pages or
it is just not focused on the necessary area of the document.

HTH.

Hi Krister.

First, let me say that you can export to word formats in textedit just fine.
To do this, make a new rich text document using command N followed by command
shift T.
When you save your file, simply add the .doc or .docx extension and it will
open properly in word.

If you stull need the extra features of pages or you just want the piece of
mind of using a pages to word converter, here are some tips that may help you.

Pages is very cluttered. To get to an edit box where you can compose a
document, you have to interact with first the layout area, and then the body
field.

To make formatting changes, you then have to stop interacting with everything,
go over to the formatter group, and interact with that. It's very tedious.
Fortunately, all of the formattting keyboard commands you know and love from
pages are still here.

I hope this helps get you started.
