You need to go into Notification Centre Preferences, interact with the table of
applications, and uncheck all the boxes regarding Mail.

Subject: Turning notifications offf for E-Mail

I have had to do a reinstall of the OS on my Mac Mini. All is well, but I can’t
get notifications to be turned off for E-Mail. This is annoying because any
time a new post arrives, notifications has to interrupt whatever I’m doing. I
have turned notifications off in system preferences, but it is still an issue.
What am I missing?

Kristeen
