Plug it in with Ethernet and let it power up. Now turn on Bonjour in Safari
prefs and see if, in the Bookmarks menu, you now have an entry in the Bonjour
submenu for that printer. You might. And it might just lead to a page that
lets you configure it, including its Wi-Fi adaptor. If nothing shows up under
Bonjour, look in your router’s DHCP table, if you know how. There you may see
the IP address of the just-acquired printer address lease.

My Epson didn’t; the web page was just an ink level status meter. But my HP
LaserJet most assuredly does. I don’t use Wi-Fi though; it’s near enough for
Ethernet. Moreover my printer supports Wi-Fi Direct, so even with Wi-Fi on, it
need not be connected to my network; it acts as a little Wi-Fi network of its
own that can be used for printing by anybody in range. And I set up EPrint so
I can just email it to print, if I’m afar (also works with Google CloudPrint).
HP are really quite good about accessibility. About the only thing I can’t do,
rather stupidly, is operate the copier functions; some other printers have
little smartphone apps for that, but mine has the regular old touch keypad (not
touchscreen).

Anyway, see how you go. You might be able to go quite far once it’s plugged in
to the net.
