OK yes, fair point, if you have the base station analog at the site then you 
get most of the benefit, but I think the reason why carriers love Wi-Fi calling 
so much is precisely that customers can use it absolutely anywhere there’s 
Internet. And let’s face it, asking customers to purchase and install a box at 
home to get better signal isn’t exactly a glowing endorsement of your network 
coverage. :)

One of our networks tried this, Vodafone, and they didn’t operate at all well 
because they required native (i.e. non-wrapped) IPSec support on a typical home 
network.  Very silly and unfortunate requirement, all things considered, and 
sure enough it largely failed on the technicalities.
