If it's a parallel to USB adapter, then it won't appear as a serial port but
as a parallel printer port. I don't know what the device names are under OS X,
but there may be a device node in /dev. System log files may show whether the
device is recognized.

If it is recognized, you're in luck. Otherwise, I can think of two options:

1. Find a parallel to USB adapter that OS X does recognize or for which there
is a driver. This has nothing to do with the embosser itself.

2. Configure the embosser for serial output, and connect a serial to USB
adapter that OS X can recognize. I've jused a Juliet embosser in the past
(under Linux, not OS X). It had both serial and parallel ports and you could
switch between them with configuration commands issued via the key pad.
