Hi, Yes, I agree that the phone needs to be on speaker. I find that if I put the phone to my ear as soon as I hit the call button then once it starts raining I can take it away from my ear and it will go to speaker. The keypad is then accessible and you can type in numbers or extensions or whatever you need to. Hope that helps.
