I wish I got that sort of speed, 4g is available around most of my city.
But then there are the blackspots. About 3 times the average speeds here since you’re running a later revision of LTE. But all carriers, whether in the US or otherwise do throttle at times and do conduct network optimization. I have only seen T-Mobile throttle on busy towers for example in city centers and only on a temp basis. They will try to move you off to a less congested tower if one is in range. Few points here, that so-called free streaming from T-Mobile, it’s not what you think it is. While it’s true, services like youtube or netflix and music services like iTunes or spodify are available for free against your streaming plan, the data is massively manipulated. For example, that 1080P youtube video you’re watching over T-Mobile with their binge plan is actually down converted to 480P first and rescaled so the content you think you’re getting isn’t actually what you’re getting. The good thing is though you can disable this feature and let the data pass unmodified. Since I have an unlimited data plan I disable this feature and allow the full data to pass. If you have a quota though it’s a tradeoff you might want to make. The plan I have isn’t available any more but I have 2 lines for $50 each, unlimited use. One of my phones has had more than 30GB of data transit the phone in a month and my service wasn’t disrupted at all. You get an allotment of usage, but any company that has an agreement with T-mo you can use without it counting against your monthly allotment. I choose not to use an iphone for reasons not at all related to coverage and as such, I miss out on items like support for the 700 mhz and 2300 mhz signals. As a result, my coverage outside the reno sparks area, in the detroit wayne county airport, and some other places is curtailed. What I do like about t-mo though, aside from truly unlimitted talk and text and reasonable cell volume caps is the fact that I can roam to canada totally unlmitted for free. I've been in Ontario for four months abusing the bell network and I'm not paying for it because of t-mobile's canadian roaming. That's outstanding value. I had there service for little over a year on my iPhone 5S, but by now I’m sure indoor coverage is better. When I had there service the indoor coverage was pretty bad. The benefits however were great, with now allowing unlimited video streaming service and music without having to count towards data plan. I am currently with AT*T on my ipHone 6S Plus, and so far as promised from AT&T there coverage is superior. Only the 6S and 6S+ support the 700 mhz band. The previous versions of the iPhone do not support this band and support the 1800 to 2300 MHZ band for T-Mobile only so it won’t penetrate that building most likely. THat’s almost certainly the problem. I have a 6S+ and lock on to band 12 no problem deep inside large steel and glass buildings with out issue. Also, the radio in general in the 6S / 6S+ / SE is better and more sensitive and locks on to towers better than the 6. Each iteration of the iPhone has had improved radios for the most part but the jump from the 6 to the 6S was significant as was the jump from the 5S to the 6. I'm only a few feet from the outer glass edge of the building but admittedly, I am technically in an inner office. If I get really close to the windows, there is a bit of signal sometimes but not always by any means. Thankfully, I have finally gotten access to some wifi that makes life a little easier. For a while there I was not sure what I was going to do. If you h ave the new band 12 support in your phone you most likely won’t have the problems you mention. I work in a giant glass building with about 10K employees on 14 floors with an unbuilding Verizon repeater system and T-Mobile gets 3 bars of LTE even in the center of the facility. This is on an iPhone 6S+ though with band 12 (700 mhz) support. The lower band has about 4 times the building penetration and twice the over all distance of propagation than the band 2 or 4 frequencies they normally use. Some areas had interference with television channels though which delayed the roll out. Boston was one although the issue with channel 51 in Rhode Island was resolved and the channel moved to 50. Chicago has something similar going on as does the DFW area I believe. You also have plans for a 600 MHZ auction this year and don’t forget T-Mobile interoperates with AT&T on 700 mhz so you can switch between networks if your phone supports it. If you’re working with an iPhone 6 or older that’s most likely your problem. I recently switched to T-mobile after hearing all the praises. I'll be leaving again very soon. Admittedly, when I am in an area with a signal, the speeds are pretty good. I was quite shocked a few months ago shortly after I had switched to T-Mobile when, while on a trip to Florida, in a restaurant, I was the only person in my group who had absolutely no service. Everyone else had at least four bars. T-Mobile has certainly gotten better, but it has some problems just as the others do. (again 4g LTE coverage) In terms of the globe, the US is now in the top 10 of nations in terms of coverage with over 80% of the country covered by LTE. However, in terms of speed we’re far behind countries like Singapore and New Zealand with their average speeds at 30+ megabits. Remember though these are much smaller countries with much more dense networks. For a country our size we’re doing great as far as rollout goes.
