That was a very good guess, seems he responded though that the port was loaded. The only other thing I might suggest is running a permissions repair on the disk.
Martin, quick question, are you using a rotating disk or an SSD storage device? I assume you know this but if not you could check under the finder, apple menu, about this Mac, and under the storage section it will tell you the types installed. Rotating disks can definitely cause this behavior, especially if they are near full. Another guess but maybe we’ll get lucky and nail the problem.
