Probably the best thing to do, is select the event with the date and time and 
then paste it into the new event entry field of the calendar application.

You can also, vo-shift-M on the date and select quick look event. 

This will bring up a dialog that might be usable by VoiceOver that has the 
details and allows you to add a location travel time …

Note, if you calendar application has a details dialog open both the quick look 
event and mail seem to become unusable in both El Capitain and Yosemite and 
your only way out is to quite and start mail.

And no, I have not documented this in enough detail to report to Apple 
Accessibility.
