Hello Everyone,

Well, it's been quite a week, on-list, to say the least.

I am writing to let you all know that Cara and I read virtually every post.

Now I realize that many of you believe that some topics do not belong on
this list and that they should be immediately shut down; further if the
posters continue to contribute to the thread, they should be immediately
banned from the community.

While that is certainly a reasonable point of view, I would ask you to
consider another point of view, said point being that this list is more than
just a Mac support community, it is also a place where we share ideas and
express ourselves to the world. It's a place where we can be heard.

This is why, for the most part, Cara and I do not immediately request that a
thread be closed even when it appears to be a bit off-topic. Having said
this, we do expect everyone to honor our requests to close a thread when
such a request has been made.

It would appear that some of you do not understand how I, as a moderator,
choose to view/handle various issues that come up, on-list, from
time-to-time.

My view is really quite simple. I think of all of you, even those of you
who strongly disagree with my approach to list management, as being part of
my family. This is to say, I think of this community as being composed of
family members not mere list subscribers.

I am always reluctant to ban someone from the list. For many of us, this
online community, is our primary social outlet and, realizing this, I choose
to handle various situations with extreme care and delicacy, when possible.

In any community, virtual or not, we must all learn to get along with
others. We cannot ban everyone who offends us or who's opinions clash with
our own.

Does this make sense?

More simply stated, I, for example, may not always like my sister but, she
is my sister and I want her here, with me.

Those of you, with whom I have communicated, off-list, know that I say what
I mean and mean what I say and that I do not tolerate threats or ultimatums
against this community or any of its members.

Be that as it may, banning any one of you from the list would diminish us
all for we all have a voice and it is important that our voices be haerd.

We, all of us in this community, are visually challenged and it is this
challenge that ties us together in a way that is beyond any untying. Please
try to keep this in mind, okay?

Even though I have not met many of you, in person, please always remember
that I am listening and that you matter to me.

Now, relax, take it easy, and have a wonderful, accessible weekend.

Most Sincerely,

Moderator Mark
