Hi,

Try these in order. If the first item fixes the issue, then no need to do
anything further. If the problem isn't fixed, then move on to the next item.

1. Have you actually shut the unit totally down or just closed it, thus
putting it to sleep? If not, then go under the Apple menu and choose Shutdown
to turn it off completely. Wait about 30 seconds then power it back on.
2. Power it off. Wait 30 seconds to a minute. Power it back on and
immediately after pressing the power button, hold down the Command, Option, p
and r keys at the same time. You may wish to practice holding down that key
combination a time or two before pressing the power button. I usually hold my
left thumb across the Command and Option keys, my left index finger on the r
key and my right pinky on the p key. When holding down this combination, you
will be resetting the NVRAM. Hold it down through the Startup Chime and
continue holding it down through three more Startup Chime sounds, then release
all your fingers. If it does not sound the Startup Chime multiple times, then
you didn't get the keys down quick enough. After releasing your fingers, let
it start up and see if things have improved.
3. Make sure you have a good backup of your Mac. Plug in your power adaptor.
Power it down. Wait about 30 seconds. Power it back up while holding down the
Command and r keys. Hold them down for 10 to 15 seconds. Wait patiently for
about one to two minutes. You are now starting in Recovery mode, so VO will
not be on. Press cmd-f5 to turn VO on. If VO doesn't start, wait about one
minute more and try with cmd-f5 again. Follow the prompts and choose to
Reinstall MacOS X and press Continue. Follow the prompts again entering your
Apple ID password where necessary. If a progress bar is not announced fairly
soon, use the Window Chooser (VO-f2-f2) to see if the installer is waiting for
you to enter something. Depending on your Internet speed, this may take a
while. There should be a progress area where you can determine how things are
moving along. Let it do its thing. It may restart a few times. Do not shut
it off. After it restarts, press cmd-f5 to turn VO on. If VO doesn't come on,
just wait a while and try again. Be patient, and do not turn your Mac off even
if it feels like not much is happening. Once it gets to the Login screen,
login to your user and see how things go.
4. If none of these worked, perform a clean install. I can give instructions
if needed. Similar to #3, but with a few extra steps.

Later...
