Hi everyone,

A while back, David Woodbridge did a podcast on listening to Kindle books and
iBooks when the screen on an iPhone is locked. I do a lot of reading, so
successfully and reliably availing myself of this feature is important to me.
I believe that I have followed David’s instructions properly, but I cannot
duplicate the same results.

David’s podcasts are always instructive and are well-done from an audio
perspective. However, in this particular podcast, his iPhone frequently drowns
out his voice, and I may be missing something. The best I have been able to
achieve thus far is to get the iPhone to read one page of a kindle book while
the iPhone is locked, but when it gets to the end of a book page, it stops
reading. Furthermore, I have never been able to find the speak screen controls
to which David refers when I am reading, e.g. speed, start and stop.

Could someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

In my Accessibility settings, Speak Screen is on, and I have selected the
voices I want for reading. When I launch the Kindle app and to a two-finger
flick down, the book starts reading, until I hit the lock screen key. When I
use Siri and tell the phone to speak the screen, my iPhone tells me that there
is nothing on the screen. One time, however, I was able to get the iPhone to
read one page of test, but it would not continuously read beyond the page I
started on. Am I missing something fundamentally important? It is obvious to
me that I am. :-)

Thanks for any thoughts,

Mike
