Hello Lois,

Thank you for testing this.

However, I wonder if the message you received was an iMessage or a standard SMS
text message.

I checked with a buddy of mine who informed me that, as of the latest
commercial release of Watch OS, there is some inconsistencies with
notifications. His solution was to hard reset the device after making the
desired settings in the Watch app.

Also, I think Simon's suggestion about logging into Apple watch with a
different Apple ID is a brilliant one that totally makes sense to me; I never
would have thought of that.

I'll give it a try.

Mark

Hi Mark,

I did turn on custom and turned off alerts. The next text that came in with my
phone locked did not come to my watch. Apparently, you don't have to do
anything with the messages app on your phone.

Take care,
Lois

Hello Lois and thank you for your suggestion.

I have that particular settings switched to Custom whereupon I subsequently
disabled all alerts. However, I continue to receive text messages.

Perhaps you could change your setting, thustly, to confirm my finding?

Again, thank you,

Mark

Hi Mark,

On you phone in the watch app, under messages are two choices. One is mirror
my IPhone, and the other is custom. I have mine set to the first and haven't
tried custom, but I have a feeling that might fix that particular problem.

Take care,
Lois

Subject: Mark's New Apple Watch with One Big Question

Hello Everyone,

I just got a new Apple Watch, today.

So far, so good. I successfully updated the software and began experimenting
with the various aspects of the device.

I have one luming question:

I absolutely do not want any iMessages being pushed to the watch. How can I
stop this from happening.

Just so you know, I went into the watch app, on iPhone, and disabled Message
notifications but, still, every time I wake the device, I see the new message I
received on iPHone.

Oh, one more thing, is there a way to prevent the device from syncing info from
iPhone? I expect to use this device more like a watch and a fitness tracker
than a communications tool. I do not expect to lookup contacts, calendar
appointments, etc, at this time.

All replies welcome and thank you.

Mark
