Hi, As Jonathan mentioned, if you created and edited this document using TextEdit, then previous edits are saved within TextEdit itself. You can look back through those archived versions to find the version you're looking for. If that doesn't work, the easiest thing to do would be to locate the file you're wishing to recover, or at least locate the folder where it used to reside. Next, go up to the Extras menu and open the Time Machine menu, choose Enter Time Machine. Press VO-f2-f2 to bring up the Window Chooser and select the Time Machine Controls window. In this window, you can select the date you desire, then wait a few seconds as the OS locates and builds the backup for use, press VO-f2-f2 again and choose the window that is not the Time Machine Controls one. Your file should be there at the given revision date.

Was the file edited using textedit? If so, then there should be a mini-time machine interface in the editing window. If not, then instructions for using time machine have been given before on list. I personally have never tried this. The couple of times I needed to pull something from time machine when I was not migrating to a new system, I used the finder and scanned the backup disk to the backup directory to the system to the date or something close to that. I believe there is a way to go into menu extras, activate time machine, and then use a scroll bar to pick a date. Good luck!
