That is absolutely highway robbery.  In contrast, I pay $50 per month for 
unlimited service, unlimited data and my voice translation for voicemail is $3 
the visual mail itself is included.

Almost seems worth getting a phone in the states and paying the very small 4G 
roaming fee.
