Hi Donna,

Sorry to hear it’s been a bad weekend,

Yeah I’m finding it kind of funny from this end as it’s a 7 minute blackout
that’s happening coast to coast across the usa,
And everyone is making such a big thing out of it,

Yet if you can sset things up quickly enough NASA are streaming it so you could
copy that streem and have it for prosperity

New Zealand gets our next total eclipse in I think it’s 2028

But good luck tomorrow or in the morning in my case.

Approx. 7 hours till darkness falls in the middle of the day.

Hi Simon,

This is a very fun story about a small town in the U.S. that suddenly finds
itself in the limelight. As best i understand it, the longest duration of the
eclipse is in a small town in Illinois where many of my in-laws live, and where
my husband and I lived till this past April. Truth be told, this has been a
rough weekend. I'm sad I'm not there. The university is closed Monday, and
there are lots of parties that we would be attending if we still lived there.

Hi Janina,

Yes it was a story on our evening news tv show last night.

The town in Oregon that is the centre of the eclipse has a population of
approx. 6500 people but they are expecting 250000 to arrive over the next day
or so to watch the eclipse

Simon,

Where I live just outside Washington, DC, it will approximately 80%.
It's full further west in the U.S. Hotels out west are full. People are
sleeping in their cars, I imagine! <grin>

I didn't know there was to be a solar eclipse this year?

So is it a full one for you folks in the northern hemisphere or only partial?

And besides I'm sure this type of thing happens every day, Or at least
night, I believe what happens is the earth gets in front of the sun so that the
side of the earth furtherest away from the sun is eclipsed from seeing it, and
it gets very dark on that furtherest away side.

Hi,

People living anywhere proximate to the coming solar eclipse might want to look
into a special app intended to help blind and visually impaired people
experience this upcoming celestial event:

ired.html

The app, Eclipse Soundscape, may well be available via Itunes Appstore.
I haven't checked, though.

Enjoy!

Janina
