Hello Everyone, Below, I am going to paste in the text that, up until now, it seems, would place iOS in a permanent field test mode. This would allow one to see the strength of the cell signal in numbers, rather than in bars. For example, instead of displaying 1 of 5 bars it would display -92. The numbers are much more accurate in determining how much signal strength is actually available.
However, after updating a Sprint phone, the following steps do not appear to work. I am wondering if this is just a Sprint issue or is this option no longer available in iOS 11. To be clear, the steps below do place the phone in field test mode but, so far, I cannot get the setting to remain permanent. Can anyone please confirm this for me? Mark How to Display Your iPhone Signal Strength in Numbers Info I have seen 2 different methods of putting your iPhone in Field Test mode permanently in iOS 7, a short one and a long one. The short way: 1. Open your phone app and dial *3001#12345#* and press send/call. (I recommend putting this in your Notepad so can copy and paste it. You will need it several times.) 2. Press and hold the power button until the slide to close appears. 3. Hold the home to kill the Field Test mode app (In iOS 7 it will restart, in iOS 6 it is now permanent.) 4. Repeat step 2 and 3 a couple of times. 5. Tap the home button to close Field Test mode. 6. Repeat steps 1-3 (With a little bit of luck it will work the first time here. I am usually able to get it the first time here. If not keep repeating.) 7. When it works you will see the Field Test mode actually close and NOT restart. When this happens it is now permanent. The long way: 1. Open your phone app and dial *3001#12345#* and press send/call. 2. Press and hold the power button until the slide to close appears. 3. Slide the slide bar to turn your phone off. 4. Turn your phone back on. 5. It should now be permanent. Here are the instructions from Redmond Pie: 1. Dial *3001#12345#* on your iPhone then press Call. 2. You'll now enter Field Test mode. You'll notice a signal strength indicator on the upper left hand corner of your screen. You can toggle between signal strength bars and a number by simply tapping on it. At this point, press the home button to exit the app or if you would like the feature to be permanent, continue on. Don't worry, the process is completely reversible. 3. Hold down on the Power button until you see the 'slide to power off' bar. Do not power off the device. 4. Press down on the Home button until the app closes and you return to your home screen. That's it. Even when restarting the iPhone, the signal strength can be toggled between bars and numbers. The closer your number is to zero, the stronger your signal is. The lower your number, the stronger your signal but don't include the minus sign when evaluating (so, if the signal says -60, that's better than -90). To return to the default bars permanently, follow these steps: 1. Dial *3001#12345#* on your iPhone then press Call. 2. Press on your Home Button once.
