Tim,
How would a user even know to look there given the label though? After all, as I understand it the voice quality on other devices is degrading, so they might think the quality is poor and cannot be fixed. So, without a clear indicator that activities, which could mean any number of things, for example a place to assign voices to certain tasks, actually refers to advanced voices, why would anyone check? Just a thought, but if I had a mac, I would tell apple accessibility that the label is needlessly confusing...but that is me.

Hi,

The "Activities", from the prospective of many, is a mislabelled scroll area.
In previous versions of MacOS, this area was known as the Additional Voices area, but now
is labelled as Activities. Confusing for some, but once you know what is inside that
Scroll area, then immaterial.

Hi E.T.,

Well, I'll say this, the process is certainly not intuitive, at least, not in
my opinion.

Were it not for your quick reply to my question, I would never have thought to
look any further than the voice activity table.

To be even more honest, I thought that the label, Alex, Compact, was some kind
of VoiceOver typo. I had no idea that Alex had a compact version. (smile)

Glad to hear it, Mark. It seems it takes a lot to get down in there, doesn't
it?

You will need to drill deep into the what Apple calls Activities and find
the enhanced version of Alex and download it.

Hello Everyone,

I made the big plunge and installed High Sierra on my primary partition.
Everything is working well except that Alex sounds a bit strange, kind of.
(smile).

Anyway, upon exploring VoiceOver utility, I noticed that the Alex TTS
is listed as Alex, Compact. Can this be right?

If there are now two separate Alex voices, how, then, can I obtain
the non-compact version?

All replies welcomed.

Thank you,

Mark
