Hi, Some of you may be aware of these, but I thought that I'd share anyway. My wife sent me a "Happy New Year" iMessage on Jan 1, what a surprise eh? When she sent it, all of a sudden she said that there were fireworks exploding on the screen. When I received the iMessage, VO announced that I had fireworks exploding across my screen as well. This got me interested so I did a bit of research. An iMessage of "Happy New Year" or "Happy Birthday" will automatically add an effect of either the fireworks or balloons which VO will announce. This is quite an amazing thing in my opinion. Too many times, these sorts of visual effects are not useful to us VO users.
There are even more effects than the two previously mentioned, and they are totally accessible to VO users. Note that these are only available when sending/receiving iMessages, regular SMS Text messages don't have this feature. Also, note that this works best on iPhones with 3D Touch, which are the 6S and newer models. You may be able to make it work on an older non-3D Touch device, but it may take more fiddling. To send an iMessage with an effect from your iDevice, do the following: 1. Open the Messages app on your iDevice. 2. Compose a message to someone else who has an iPhone. 3. Locate the "Send" button and 3D-press on it. You will probably need to move your finger around until it is announced so that the 3D-Touch will properly work. 4. Swipe right until you hear "Screen" and double-tap on it. 5. Swipe right to the end and you'll hear something about "Echo Effect". Swipe up/down on this picker to choose from nine different effects. 6. After you have the effect you desire, swipe left until you hear the "Send with such and such effect" button. Double-tap on it. The message will be sent with the chosen effect and VO should announce it to you. If the recipient is sighted, they will see the effect when they open the iMessage. If it is a VO user, VO will announce a description of the screen effect. Enjoy. Later...
