Hello; the only thing is when the mac is actually shutting down you will hear a message that says shutting down. that probably doesn't help much. but since its a system message maybe you could set the system volume higher than the screen reading volume so you hear that message. I can hear it perfectly, and sometimes I'm not sure if it has shut down either. gooc luck, max

Actually, I guess I need to be more specific for the blondes on the list. If I try to shut down, or if I'm using the Mac without VO, say, for a movie, I'm just wondering if there is any other way to confirm it's status. Or, if VO shuts up, then I haven't a clue whether I've turned off the Mac or if it is still running. It's really not that strange a question. Is it?

Hi mac family:
I'm a proud owner of a MacBook Pro, and a pc-convert wanna-be. (although as I write, I'm cheating). I live in Denver Co with my daughter, age 12, and my husband. I'll try not to ask too many silly questions. In any case, I have a silly question: I'm hearing impaired, so don't really hear my mac when it's on. With my pc, there is a little noise, but also, I can use the disk-door to see if the power's on. With the Mac slot loader, there's no way for me to know. Any ideas?
TIA
