Any idea what application name owns the window you talk about? There are 
folders that contain XML files for starting items at regular intervals if you 
think it might be such a daemon. These are controlled by Launchd and include 
indexing, updating and siri services  a young others. So, you could certainly 
look at the launch directories in your Library folders (~/Library,  /Library 
and /System/Library) though that last one is supposed to be locked down so that 
only OS installers can add files.
