Hello,
I am running the latest Mojave on a 2017 iMac using a 2 TB partition of a 4 TB
USB disk for my Time Machine backup. This iMac is nearly always powered on. My
wife has recently acquired a 2018 MacBook Air and I am keen for her to keep
Time Machine backups. As the MacBook will be portable and used in various
rooms in the house I am hoping that I can set her up to use the other 2 TB
partition of the above disk as a remote Time Machine backup disk somewhat like
the old Apple Time Capsule.
Is this feasible and have any of you tried a similar set up?
A possible complication is that I want the Time Machine backup to be encrypted.
Will this encryption be done by the MacBook or by the iMac? I notice that the
initial encryption of the iMac time machine partition is taking a long time and
thus presumably consuming a lot of iMac CPU resource. Would this be a problem
for the map book question should I do the initial Time Machine set up with the
time machine disk directly connected to the MacBook?
Many thanks for any tips in this area.
