Dave,
The folders in my iCloud Drive are synced to iPhone, Mac and Windows. Those folders do not exist outside of iCloud Drive. I don't know if it matters but it is simpler for me to manage things.

Simon,

I understand what you are suggesting. However the “fils” app on the iPhone is
the interface to iCloud Drive. I do have iCloud Drive enabled on my iPhone.

I’m wondering if I cannot have those files and folders on my Mac hard drive,
but instead have to move them to the iCloud Drive and always access them there,
whether on my Mac or on. my iPhone. If so, I’d just need to set up an alias to
the iCloud Drive on my Mac desktop to make it easier to get at that set of
files and folders.

If this is the case, then how would I ensure that these files get incrementally
backed up using Time Machine?
