Okay well firstly security, you want to get a Rooter that is of recent production as it has firmware to stop hackers getting into your systems, computers, backups or whatever else is on your network. Modern-Day rooters can handle a larger amount of traffic than the Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, Express etc were ever designed to cope with. Modern-Day Rooters use faster CUP chips and can handle more Wi-Fi standards, LAN standards etc.
