Hello Rena,
To create a new card in the contacts app press command with the letter N. This
is a fairly universal shortcut for Mac systems. In document based applications
it will create a new document, in the finder and Browsers it opens a new
window, in mail it creates a new e-mail message.
Once you click control N contacts will say First Name, type the first
name of the person and then press the tab key at this point it will say last
name, and you can enter that.

The other major keystroke for contacts is command-l which toggles between edit
mode and view only mode. I sometimes use this command even when I don't want to
change anything for the contact as it is easier to select and copy information
in this mode.
Try these out and then ask additional questions.

                Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn
