Safari works fine, I don't use terminal or the other applications you mentioned. The messages app is quite a bit different, it's usable but takes some getting used to. At this point, adding and removing items from the dock is not possible using the keyboard, I think Apple has confirmed that this is a known issue. It's really up to you, there's certainly nothing wrong with waiting for a while for Apple to make things better.
