My understanding (which may be wrong) is that, by default, copying a file on the APFS file system does not duplicate the data, and therefore does not use significantly more disk space.

APFS is a “copy-on-write” file system, which means that the data are copied only when the duplicate file is modified.

Hi,

On the Mac, is there a built in tool or way to check your files for duplicates or can anyone recommend an accessible Mac app to do this. I suspect I have lots of duplicate files and I need to make more space.

Thanks,

Christina
